Day 3 in South Africa

Day 3 : Sun City/ Sandton

Today was an easy day for us. We woke up at around 8 am and I went for a run and Eric went for a walk at the Lost City Golf course. On the way back to the hotel, we walked through a trail that led us to a Ceremonial Gazebo
where we sat in the middle to get that sense of Zen.


Then we just went around the hotel taking silly pictures.


We left Sun City around 11:30 am and headed back to the city. It was boiling hot! Temperature outside went up as high as 42 deg C!

We saw the typical dwellings of the common people, which are made of galvanized irons



.....and it made us wonder how they could stand the heat living inside these shanties. Apparently they love it. There's hardly any windows in these houses and if there are, they would close it so it's even warmer inside. bizzaro!

On the way, we stopped by a Curio wholesaler for some native souvenirs and bought some gears for our big safari trip on the weekend!

We then headed to our new hotel, the Southern Sun Greystone, in the city of Sandton….which is located in the outskirt of Johannesburg. It is said that after the Apartheid was abolished, Jo’berg was no longer exclusively for the whites and therefore, many black folks were allowed to reside there and also, many criminal elements moved in as well. To move away from all these problems, a lot of the white residents and businesses of Jo’berg have relocated to Sandton.

The highlight of the day was our very meaty dinner. We went to an exotic restaurant which specialized in African game meats.
It's sort of like Samba in Vancouver but on a much higher scale. Once you get inside the restaurant, they make you feel like some kinda tribal chief who's just about ready to eat anything!







We were able to try cool stuff that we never thought were edible..... such as antelopes, kudos, wild boars, rhinoceros, horses, and crocodiles…. just to name a few. ...too bad they ran out of ostriches.
